$ whois unixbabe.org

Since the start of 2000, when I meet my boyfriend I became very interested in computers in general. As his interest grew to unix/linux so did mine. My first linux dist was slackware with fluxbox. When I realised that I could make my own themes, Pink themes (!), I feelt that I was in love with the OS.

Anyways, I spent alot of time on IRC (Internet Relay Chat), and meet loads of new people, friends I still today (even if it was a while ago I talked to some of them) remember having an impact on my life. But I soon realised that there was more girls out on the "geek" web, then one could really think.

So my boyfriend decided to learn to code and started with something simple as PHP. And once again, I joined the "learn-train". So I thought to myself "why not make a community for girls?", to see how many we can lure out of the darkness. Said and done, I started with the pink theme, since the site was refering to the female geeks out there.

At first it was something basic, a simple site where you could register and send private messages to one another. It was not much for the world, but it was a fun project that seemed to get some nice responses from the geeks.

Back and forth I've tried to rebuild unixbabe.org, trying to make it bigger, and more interesting for the users. Since at the start only drew most male users who wanted to join to check out how many girls that were registered. But I remember having a conversation with a girl on IRC who came from spain (?), I think. She asked to build the site in spanish, and asked for my premission to "take" the idea. And Of course I was flattered, so there acctually was girls out there who liked this idea!

But at the summer of 2006 me and my boyfriend got hooked on Wow (World of Warcraft). This along with other factors ruined my idea. And it made me place it on the shelf for a while. I always renewed the domain, but never really used it for more then just the mail.

But it was always on my mind, I wanted to pick up this project again, bring it back to life! And this time, do it good. My experience with PHP has evolved to something better then it was the first time, when I was still learning. Sure Im still learning this, but I can tell you I know alot more now then back then. Anyways, now I got some spare time on my hands, and I really want this project back online! So Im gonna try to build it to something more usefull and memorable this time.
